Used Suzuki SJ

The Suzuki SJ Series began its production in 1976. Originally badged the Suzuki Jimny in Japan, it was a kei car, or a kind of small automobile designed to exploit tax and insurance relaxations. Released with 550 and 660 cc engines locally, the SJ Series would eventually be lengthened and widened for export to other markets. It would have many names worldwide: Sierra, Samurai, Potohar, Santana, Caribbean, Drover, and Gypsy. The Suzuki SJ was a small 4WD vehicle available in three body styles: a soft top, a hard top, and a metal top. While originally being produced only with 550 or 660 cc three-cylinder engines during its production, the SJ series would eventually be fitted with larger, slightly more powerful engines. The third-generation Jimny, for instance, was fitted with a newly designed 16-valve four-cylinder 1.3L engine with fuel injection. This 1.3L engine provided sufficient, if modest, performance for the used Suzuki SJ. It was certainly not among the fastest 4WD vehicles, with top speed of only about 80 to 90 mph. Acceleration is also just decent, and the engine needs a lot of revs to pick up speed, and can be noisy on motorways. However, also because of the relatively low displacement of the engine, it is very economical. The SJ’s fuel efficiency is stellar, for a 4WD vehicle. Unlike many of its competitor compact 4WD vehicles, the Suzuki SJ series includes as standard a ladder type chassis and a dual ratio transfer case. This means that the Suzuki SJ is a full-fledged 4WD vehicle and not just a crossover, despite its size. This makes the Suzuki Jimny and the other models in the SJ series perfect as 4WD vehicles for beginners. The Jimny is smaller and a little more maneuverable, as well as more fuel efficient, than larger 4WD SUVs. As for cruising around on motorways, the Suzuki SJ’s comfort level is certainly subpar. There is a lot of body roll, and the suspension is a little stiff. Steering also proves to be quite dull and unresponsive at times. All of these simply point to the fact that the SJ series was really designed to be used off-road more than in typical urban conditions. The Suzuki SJ is a fun little 4WD vehicle that will make particular users fall in love. Fuel efficient but with all the off-roading ability of bigger SUVs, it will certainly appeal to a lot of people, despite its sparse interior and uncomfortable ride.
